TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). It began in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment, and design converged, and today it covers almost every topic, from science to business to global issues, in more than 100 languages.

TEDx

TEDx is a program of local, independently organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. "x" = independently organized TED event. TEDx events are planned and coordinated by volunteers from the local community, under a free license granted by TED.

TEDx events are community-driven and non-profit, run by passionate volunteers who aim to share ideas within their local communities. While they follow specific guidelines provided by TED, each TEDx event is independently organized, allowing for flexibility in content and structure to suit regional needs.

The focus of TEDx is on local speakers, relevant topics, and regional issues, highlighting ideas and perspectives that matter most to the immediate audience. These events are designed to spark deep discussion and foster meaningful connections among participants, encouraging learning and collaboration.

TEDx events vary in scale and setting — they can be hosted by universities (e.g., TEDxUniversityName), community groups, or even encompass entire cities (e.g., TEDxSingapore), making the TED experience accessible to people everywhere.

Techcare - Inspiring the Future of Rehabilitation Technology and Human Touch

Representing our team, Dr. Khor Kang Xiang shared a valuable perspective on how modern technology can transform the future of rehabilitation therapy, while still preserving the essential human connection between caregivers and patients.

Titled “Rehab Reimagined: The Intersection of Technology and Human Touch,” his presentation dives into the growing role of robotics, artificial intelligence, and wearable devices in physical rehabilitation. He explained how these tools can help monitor patient progress and improve therapy precision, making treatment more accessible and efficient.

However, Dr. Khor also emphasized a crucial point: technology alone is not enough. He highlighted the importance of the human element after the journey with his father who had a stroke twice several years ago, such as empathy, encouragement, and personalized care, which are also important in the healing process. Through real-world examples and insights from his own research or clinical experience, he showed how the best outcomes happen when technology and human care work together, not separately.

His talk challenges both medical professionals and the public to rethink how we deliver care, advocating for a future where innovation enhances compassion, rather than replaces it. This powerful message resonated with the TEDxUTM audience, as it reflects not only the rapid pace of technological change, but also the timeless value of human connection in healthcare.

From wearable health tech to AI-enabled care systems, the talk showcased how Techcare Innovation is bridging the gap between technological advancement and human-centered design. It was an inspiring moment to share our mission with an audience passionate about the future of health, science, and innovation.

We’re honored to have been part of this thought-provoking event and grateful to the TEDxUTM team for the opportunity to share our story on such a respected stage. This event marks a pivotal milestone in Techcare’s journey, blending personal passion with technological prowess to create truly transformative healthcare innovation.
